Margo Goodhand Bio

Margo Goodhand is the 14th editor of the 138-year-old Winnipeg Free Press, and the first woman to hold the job. She joined the newspaper in 1991, where she has held a variety of roles, from columnist to copy editor to deputy editor of special projects. She has edited five books, including Premier Duff Roblin’s autobiography, Speaking For Myself and the Free Press’s The Hermetic Code, a Manitoba best-seller. Under her leadership, the newspaper was deemed the nation’s best news organization in 2009 by the Canadian Journalism Foundation. In the last three years, it has earned three international awards and 13 national awards, including a Michener citation for meritorious journalism in 2009 for its two-year investigation into Manitoba’s child and family services system. Goodhand is a National Newspaper Board of Governor and a board member of the John W. Dafoe Foundation.
