Kate Kehler

Social Planning Council of Winnipeg

Kate is the Executive Director of the Social Planning Council of Winnipeg (SPCW). SPCW was born out of the same turbulent times that led to the 1919 General Strike. It is one of the first social justice organizations in Canada. It works to create a more just, caring and equitable community.

Kate comes to the SPCW from the John Howard Society of Manitoba where she gained a greater understanding of how poverty is a barrier to social inclusion and that we all pay a price, in our health, education and justice systems, when we allow people to be marginalized. Kate was also the executive director of the Law Society of Nunavut and when in Thompson she worked with Manitoba Keewatinowi Okimakanak Inc. creating video projects on restorative justice. Kate also worked for over 18 years as a theatre stage and production manager across Canada.
